Embracing the Vision of “Building for Tomorrow”: Wharf Estates Limited’s Active Pursuit of Sustainable Development

Wharf Estates Limited’s shopping malls, including Harbour City, Times Square, and Plaza Hollywood, are committed to realising sustainable development while upholding the company’s vision of “Building for Tomorrow” by making a positive impact on the community.

Recognition of Enhanced Building Performance

Wharf Estates Limited continuously innovates and enhances the performance of its buildings. Times Square, in particular, has achieved the Platinum certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED v4.1 (Operations and Maintenance: Existing Buildings) and recently obtained the WELL Health-Safety Rating Certificate. These accolades affirm the mall's high standards in environmental sustainability and health and safety management, providing a secure environment for customers and tenants. Furthermore, the three malls have all implemented the Integrated Management System (IMS) comprising ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management) since last year. These certifications demonstrate their commitment to excellence in customer service, environmental stewardship, and employee safety.

Close Collaboration with Stakeholders for a Greener Lifestyle

As an environmental advocate, Wharf Estates Limited actively collaborates with stakeholders. Earlier this year, it organised a Lai See Reuse and Recycling Programme, supporting office tenants to set up collection boxes for red packets within their companies. These efforts resulted in a 50% increase in recycling compared to previous years. In community engagement, too, the company actively promotes Hong Kong's carbon reduction strategies and has designed a series of sustainable displays showcased in the three malls. These exhibits advocate for a green lifestyle by introducing the concepts of Zero-carbon Energy, Green Transport, and Waste Reduction.

Wharf Estates Limited, together with Wharf China Estates Limited, published a 2023 Sustainability Journey showcasing the progress and achievements made by the three malls and other mainland properties in key areas of sustainable development. Please visit the below link to learn more:
