[DFI Retail Group x CityFM was awarded “Green Shop of the Year – Merit” in the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance Award 2023]

DFI Retail Group (DFI), operates under a number of well-known brands across food, health & beauty, 7-Eleven, IKEA, yuu Rewards, restaurants and other retail outlets.DFI and its facilities management partner, City FM, are committed to achieving environmental sustainability in the daily operations of all their business activities, with the target of halving their carbon emissions by 2030.

Innovative Technology in Daily Operations

DFI and CityFM have integrated energy-saving systems in over a thousand retail shops across Hong Kong. These advanced initiatives include the installation of Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Gas Leak Detection and Food Temperature Monitoring. Each of these measures plays a pivotal role in enhancing the energy efficiency of their stores, demonstrating their dedication to environmental care. Simultaneously, DFI and CityFM maintain a strong commitment to minimising their refrigerant usage. Through the design and installation of a Smart Water Loop Refrigeration System, DFI and CityFM are poised to achieve a significant 90% reduction in refrigerant charges. Already in 2022-2023, these actions saved around 23 million kWh and reduced CO2e emissions by over 59,000 tonnes.

Green Energy and Food Waste Reduction at the Fresh Food Centre

Since 2020, DFI and CityFM distribution centres and the Wellcome Fresh Food Centre (WFFC) have made remarkable efforts to promote green energy and waste reduction. A key achievement at WFFC is the installation of one of the largest solar panel systems in the Hong Kong retail sector. This state-of-the-art system generates over one million kWh of renewable energy annually, sufficient to fulfil the annual electricity needs of nearly 250 local households. This initiative significantly contributes to reduced carbon emissions, saving over 370 tonnes annually. In addition, DFI and CityFM have established robust programmes aimed at food waste reduction. These include resource matching and partnering with charity organisations to ensure surplus food is utilised effectively, thereby enhancing the waste diversion rate and reinforcing their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Looking ahead, DFI and CityFM remain unwavering in their dedication to providing a shopping experience that is not only more sustainable, but also enriches the lives of customers as well as the community at large.
