Pioneering Revitalisation in Kwai Chung District – life@KCC and joy@KCC

As a member of Sun Hung Kai Properties, Kai Shing Management Services Limited (Kai Shing) has always upheld its parent company's sustainability vision. life@KCC and joy@KCC, both of which are under Kai Shing’s management, have been actively promoting carbon neutrality and sustainable development by implementing environmental awareness in their daily operations.

life@KCC – Revitalising an Industrial Building to Actively Promote a Green Community

As a pioneer in transforming an industrial building into a shopping mall in the Kwai Chung district, life@KCC has always adhered to environmental protection beliefs and utilised its architectural advantages to achieve sustainable development. While striving to preserve the industrial building, life@KCC has added green elements to the mall, such as transforming the rooftop into the “Green@KCC” sky garden, and constructing a landscaped deck to provide tenants with a comfortable green leisure space.

joy@KCC – Starting with a Green Building on a Continuous Mission of Green Leadership

joy@KCC is located in Kowloon Commerce Centre, which was the first smart commercial building in Hong Kong to be awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) “Gold” certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. In line with the building's eco-friendly construction materials, joy@KCC continues its vision by using natural daylight to reduce overall electricity consumption.

Collaborating with Tenants to Create a Green Future

life@KCC and joy@KCC actively work with tenants to encourage green daily practices. The malls regularly organise recycling events and actively invite their tenants to participate, including programmes for recycling food, disposable contact lens packaging, and electronic appliances. Moreover, the malls have taken the initiative to launch various green campaigns with green organisations. For example, the malls launched a “MSW Charging Pilot Scheme” to provide tenants with the opportunity to review their waste practices and increase recycling. Meanwhile, to promote plastic-free initiatives, the malls launched a “plastic-free” campaign, even before the Government signed such practices into law.

Application of Technology to Reduce Waste

life@KCC and joy@KCC have installed IoT irrigation systems in their planters. These systems can be controlled and scheduled through mobile applications. The irrigation schedule, which is scheduled for nighttime, is automatically suspended on rainy days to minimise wastage of water and to save manpower

life@KCC and joy@KCC remain committed to their green mission, continuously improving their environmental management services and working with tenants to move towards a low-carbon lifestyle, ultimately building a sustainable future for everyone.
