Harbour City – Promoting Energy Savings and Waste Recycling
[Harbour City was awarded “Green Mall of the Year – Certificate of Excellence” in the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance Award 2024]
Harbour City, a flagship property of Wharf Estates Limited, has the long-standing mission of "Building for Tomorrow" to achieve business success while also advancing environmental and social initiatives.
Recognition of Energy Saving Initiatives
Harbour City has implemented various energy saving initiatives to help achieve its 2030 targets. For instance, it connected two nearby chiller plants using cascaded water pumps, which significantly improved energy efficiency. This initiative was recognised by the CLP Smart Energy Award 2024. Harbour City has also been a pioneer in supporting renewable energy development since 2014 and joined the CLP Feed-in Tariff Scheme upon its establishment. In 2019, its Solar Photovoltaic System Installation was recognised as a role model by EMSD. Looking forward, Harbour City will continue to upgrade its equipment and facilities, alongside the implementation of ISO 14001 for better environmental management.
Reusing and Recycling Materials
In line with Hong Kong's vision of zero landfilling, Harbour City promotes a circular economy among its stakeholders. Internally, it organised a campaign for office recycling initiatives to cultivate the recycling habits of staff members. Externally, Harbour City hosts talks, eco-tours and collaborates with tenants on festive recycling activities.
To encourage waste management, Harbour City has established facilities to collect over 15 types of recyclables including plastics, glass, metal and food waste, further complemented by door-to-door recycling services for computers and equipment, and the continuous expansion of its Polyfoam recycling scheme. Additionally, Harbour City has installed an on-site food waste decomposing device to facilitate tenants’ food waste recycling. Its E-Foodwaste Platform even allows tenants to track their data in the cloud to help them monitor and achieve their waste reduction targets.
