PORT 33 – From Design to Operation: Promoting Environmental Management
PORT 33 is a 26-storey Grade-A office and shopping complex in San Po Kong, dedicated to promoting eco-friendly management among tenants. The building has received BEAM Plus green building certifications from the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), highlighting its sustainability performance.
The building's design incorporates various energy-saving measures, such as the "Solaris" solar concentrator on the rooftop garden, which utilises light wells to provide natural light and reduce lighting demands. The management team has also installed sensor lighting tubes and upgraded the air conditioning system, successfully decreasing electricity and water consumption over the past five years.
The rooftop and third-floor terraces feature green walls and outdoor sky gardens, which host regular mindfulness activities. An underground plant wall is irrigated through a rainwater collection system, supporting Hong Kong’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Since the building’s completion in 2018, Hong Yip Services Company Limited and its building management team have actively promoted sustainable building practices. PORT33 has achieved ISO 50001 Certification and Excellent Class IAQ Certificate for five consecutive years, received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2023, and was awarded the Best Landscape Award (Environment Efficiency) in 2024.
In daily operations, the building advocates for paperless measures by opting for electronic systems and tools for communication and procurement. It likewise encourages staff to embrace reusable water bottles and stationery. To save energy, vertical transportation and air conditioning systems reduce their operations during non-office hours. Even when selecting tenants, environmental considerations are paramount. For instance, food service providers are required to use recyclable containers, further enhancing the building’s green operations.
As a member of the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance, PORT33 continues to promote green concepts and strive towards sustainable development goals.
