Greeners Action – Joining Hands with Property Management Companies for Waste Reduction

To address Hong Kong’s pressing waste management challenges, Greeners Action launched the “Hong Kong Outstanding Green Management Award” in 2024-25, aiming to encourage property management companies to promote environmental protection, waste reduction at source, and resource recycling. In particular, the award seeks to enhance sustainable development performance and encourage the creation of comprehensive solid waste management systems.

The award received enthusiastic participation from 39 properties, including residential buildings, shopping malls, commercial buildings, and hotels, with 35 properties earning the Gold Award. On-site assessments and evaluations affirmed that many properties had adopted waste reduction and resource recycling strategies tailored to their unique characteristics, such as facility management, and staff and resident education, setting an industry benchmark for environmental excellence and demonstrating a strong commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies.

The award also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting innovative waste reduction initiatives, such as minimising waste generation, encouraging recycling, and facilitating reuse, it helps reduce environmental impact (SDG 12) while enhancing community environmental quality to foster sustainable and livable cities (SDG 11). Additionally, the award facilitates cross-sector collaboration (SDG 17) by providing a platform for government, businesses, and communities to unite in advancing sustainability efforts and shaping a greener future for Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Outstanding Green Management Award 2024 Award Ceremony was successfully held on 28 March 2025, with Mr. CHU Kai-ming, Vice President of the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies Ltd., and Professor Jonathan WONG, BBS, MH, JP, Director of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Recovery Centre, as officiating guests. The ceremony was an inspirational opportunity to celebrate the industry’s many outstanding achievements.
