Wharf Estates Limited has always regarded energy saving and carbon reduction as its important mission, aiming at enhancing energy performance by diversified energy conservation measures. The company has started using renewable energy to support operations since 2014. Its subsidiary, Harbour City, installed 320 sets of photovoltaics on the rooftop of The Gateway Tower, which is the largest solar power generating plant on commercial building rooftop in Hong Kong. The photovoltaics system conserves almost 85,000 kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to 43 tonnes CO2e. Wharf Estates Limited also invites schools to pay visits to its green facilities regularly to educate young generations the importance of sustainability.
Through education and facilities enhancement, Wharf Estates Limited aims to optimize its energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption by 10% by 2020.
