Reverse Vending Machine with Rewards Scheme | Landmark North 

Single-use or disposable plastic bottle is one of the common municipal solid waste in Hong Kong. Some environmental groups estimated that daily disposal amount of plastic bottles is more than 5.4 million. The Alliance member - Landmark North (managed by Kai Shing Management Services Limited) installed a plastic bottle reverse vending machine at the arcade to boost plastic bottles recycling. This reverse vending machine is much appreciated by the public.

The reverse vending machine is installed with a barcode scanner to distinguish the type of plastic bottles being put into the machine to avoid pollution of recycled plastic bottles. The machine is also equipped with an internet system to link to the cloud platform for real time calculation and data storage for statistical and analytical use. When in operation, people can read from the LED screen the total amount of plastic bottle being recycled and carbon emission being reduced. Upon completion of the plastic bottle recycling process, the public will get reward points to redeem gifts. In the meantime, the scheme can help to boost plastic bottles recycling and to curb plastic waste.
