Building a more sustainable future together

Citywalk, Hong Kong’s first green shopping mall, incorporates innovation and eco-friendly elements and exemplifies blending nature with shopping experience. The 40,000-square-foot ‘Citywalk Piazza’, together with the 7,000-square-foot Vertical Garden, increases the greening ratio of the project to over 30 per cent.  In addition to hardware and design, the mall is committed to promoting green messages by encouraging tenants and shoppers to participate in environmental protection initiatives. In recognition of its commitment to promoting environmental awareness, Citywalk was honoured with the Best Green Public Education Award 2019 organised by the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance.

Raising green awareness
Citywalk hosted the Gaia Earth exhibition in 2019.  The 7-metre orb, fondly christened Gaia, was wrapped with high-definition images of the Earth’s surface, attracted over one million visitors. Alongside with the exhibition, 36 workshops upcycling clothes, coffee grounds, glass bottles, paper, plastics and wood have been organised to promote preserving natural resources, recycling and upcycling, well participated by over 1,500 shoppers, with the aim of promoting waste reduction and easing the burden on landfills.  The mall also offers venue sponsorships for green groups to promote environmental protection to a wider audience.

Joining hands with tenants to promote green living
Citywalk has launched a series of green partnership programmes for its tenants. For instance, an exclusive ‘Coffee Grounds Soap Making Workshop’ was organised for tenants to promote waste reduction by using coffee grounds to make chemical-free soaps. Citywalk also collaborated with tenants on a wide array of green living activities, including the redemption of vegetarian burgers to promote healthy eating, redemption of reusable cutlery to reduce single-use plastic consumption, mooncake box recycling campaign to promote waste reduction, and more.

Creating better lifescapes
Citywalk will continue to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable community, and collaborate with community partners on green education to spread the green messages. Going forward, Citywalk will launch a series of activities about reducing single-use plastic consumption to combat the issue together.
